Dear Editor,
We are writing to complain about ads on TV. There are so many ads, especially during our favorite programs. We think they should be stopped for a number of reasons.
First, ads are nuisance. They go on for a long time and there are so many. Sometimes there seems to be more ads than programmes.
Second, ads are bad influence on people. They try to encourage people to buy unhealthy food like soft drink, candy and chips. And they make people want things they do not really need.
Finally, the people who make ads have too much say in what programmes people watch. That is because they want to put all their ads on popular programs that a lot of people watch. Some programmes which are not so popular get stopped because they do not attract enough ads, even though those programmes may be someone's favourite.
For those reasons, we think TV station should stop showing ads. They interrupt programmes. They have bad influences on people, and they are sometimes put a stop to people favourite shows. We are sick of ads, and now we mostly watch other channels.
Sincerely yours,
Arman
Soal 1
Why did Arman feel uncomfortable to watch TV programmes?
A. TV station lauched ads programmes.
B. His curiousity was increased after watching ads.
C. TV programme refused promoting food product.
D. There were too many favourite programmes on a TV station.
E. His concentration of watching TV was often disturbed by ads.
Answer & Analysis
Correct answer: E
Main reasoning: Arman complains that there are “so many ads,” they “interrupt programmes,” and they are a “nuisance” because they go on for a long time. This directly explains why watching TV becomes uncomfortable: ads disturb the viewing experience and break concentration.
Option analysis:
A. Not supported; the text says there are many ads, not that the station “launched ads programmes.”
B. Not stated; curiosity is not discussed.
C. Opposite of the text; ads encourage buying unhealthy food, not refusing promotion.
D. Not stated; the complaint is about too many ads, not too many favourite programmes.
E. Correct; “They interrupt programmes” shows the disturbance of watching.
Logic note: “Interrupt programmes” is direct cause evidence, so it is \( \gt \) unrelated claims.
Soal 2
After reading the text, we conclude that ... on TV.
A. everyone is interested in ads
B. people agree with famous ads
C. people disturb an ad program
D. people disagree with ads
E. all ads are interesting
Answer & Analysis
Correct answer: D
Main reasoning: Arman’s letter is a complaint arguing that ads should be stopped because they are a nuisance, have bad influences, and affect TV programs. The conclusion consistent with this overall message is that people (at least the writer and those represented by “we”) disagree with ads on TV.
Option analysis:
A. Contradicted; the writer is “sick of ads.”
B. Not stated; no discussion about “famous ads.”
C. Illogical and not stated; the text says ads disturb programmes, not people disturbing ads.
D. Correct; the whole letter expresses disagreement and asks stations to stop showing ads.
E. Contradicted; ads are described as nuisance and bad influence, not interesting.
Logic note: A complaint that asks to stop ads is \( \gt \) evidence of disagreement.

Soal 3
What is the advertisement about?
A. Telephone company
B. Translation services
C. Computer training
D. Language School
E. Travel Agency
Answer & Analysis
Correct answer: D
Main reasoning: The ad offers “classes for adults” in several foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese) and mentions levels from beginning to advanced. This is clearly a language school/course advertisement.
Option analysis:
A. Not supported; a phone number is provided for contact, but the service is language classes.
B. Not supported; it offers classes, not translation.
C. Not supported; no computer training mentioned.
D. Correct; it advertises language classes (a language school).
E. Not supported; no travel services mentioned.
Logic note: Offering classes in languages is \( \gt \) evidence for “Language School.”
Soal 4
The advertisement is not mostly addressed to ... to use the institute’s service.
A. adults
B. children
C. advanced
D. beginners
E. office workers
Answer & Analysis
Correct answer: B
Main reasoning: The advertisement states: “We offer classes for adults.” This means the main target is adults, not children. It also says “All levels from beginning through advanced,” which includes beginners and advanced learners (who can be adults). Therefore, “children” is the group not mostly addressed.
Option analysis:
A. Directly targeted: “classes for adults.”
B. Correct: children are not the stated target audience.
C. Included: “through advanced.”
D. Included: “from beginning.”
E. Possible subset of adults; not excluded by the text, unlike children.
Logic note: “Adults” target is explicit, so adults \( \gt \) children as intended audience.
